AYC provides an “Age Waiver Request” form that an association may use to request an age waiver. The form is located on www.MyAYF.com. This form must be signed and approved by the Conference Cheer and Dance Director and then forwarded to the Region Cheer and Dance Director for approval. If approved by both parties, the request will then be submitted to the AYC National Cheer Commissioner for final approval prior to the participant’s placement on a team and prior to the participant beginning practice. Not having the proper waiver could result in the director or commissioner denying the waiver.
At the AYC National Championships, small and large divisions may be combined into an open division when there are fewer than three (3) teams that will ultimately compete in each division.
Small Team: 5-18 members, female and/or male
Large Team: 19-36 members, female and/or male
Each year, over 300 Cheer and Dance squads, across all AYC divisions, compete for a National Championship Title in Kissimmee, Florida, home to Universal Studios Orlando, Islands of Adventure and Disney World. For more information please visit AYFchampionships.com.
Qualifying:
AYC has eight regions including Atlantic, Big East, Big West, Desert Mountain, Midwest, New England, Southeast, and Southwest. Each region hosts a regional tournament, which is the qualifier for the National Championships. (Learn about your region.) The top 3 teams in each division will win a bid to compete for a national championship.
Regional championships occur in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving weekend. Each region is responsible for scheduling their own Regional Cheer tournament.
